Western Slope Aquatics

Western Slope Aquatics located at 2905 Patterson Rd #1, Grand Junction, CO 81504. Their hours are 10-6 M-Sat and 10-5 on Sunday. No excuses for not being able to make it in because they are not open! If you live on the western side of Colorado, please put this LFS on your fish crawl list. Maybe you travel on business, whatever the reason, this store has all aspects of the hobby covered. While they may not have the best aquatic plants in the state, they do have a dedicated tank for them which is well stocked and clean. Their saltwater selection is also very good, with seawater for sale by the gallon, corals, fish, and supplies for tanks nano and epic. The freshwater fish selection along with supplies and tanks will meet the most discerning aquarist. If they don’t have what you need; not likely, they will order it for you.

On the critical side, as a family run store they were quite busy and probably could’ve used some help to cut down on customer wait times. I suppose this is a good problem to have. My issue with the Grand Junction stores is they don’t keep the saltwater tanks separate from the freshwater. Along with the neon gravel and fake plants it is hard to tell which is which, at least for the novice. This is a popular hobby for families and those with young children. Education about aquatic places and life can be so fulfilling when given authentically. There is a place for the neon and that is in fantasy tanks. I will just say Western Slope Aquatics does an excellent job of catering to their younger clientele.

The store is easy to find, right next to a Safeway store, much like Fish Crew in Ft. Collins oddly enough. The place is clean, well-stocked, and well organized for the most part. They do not do installation or maintenance but assured me they have a short list of folks who do. I will stress again the value of asking questions! They have been in the business for a very long time and will likely know the answer to your aquarium related inquires.

My pictures below will speak volumes, so be sure to see them below. I took a ton of pics here, so editing was a bit of a chore. So much to see! Most aquarists in Grand Junction will know of this store, so my recommendation speaks to those who have not visited and those who are just curious to see what they have these days. Stop by and support your LFS!
