Valley Pets at 6380 US-85, Fountain, CO 80817 is still the best option for freshwater aquaria in the Colorado Springs area. While they may not be in the Springs they are close enough to make the trip well worth the drive. No other LFS comes even close to the selection they offer. No other LFS south of Denver has plants, aquascaping supplies, pond supplies, and a selection of fish for every occasion like Valley Pets. Pet Paradise in Pueblo comes in as second place for freshwater. There are several Big Box stores with freshwater, though I only mention them to be fair. (We don’t support the corporatocracy here.)
While Valley Pets has a killer wet pet section, they also serve all the other pets. I did not bother looking at all of them since I came for one thing, Aquaria! Let me mention one other option for the freshwater hobbyist in the CS Metro and this is online community. Facebook has some active groups trading and selling aquarium livestock with some very knowledgeable folks to chat with. I believe the Springs has their own aquarium society, though I have not heard much from them lately. An internet search would likely bring them to light. So, there you have it.
