Update Northern Denver LFS

Ray’s Tank is by far the best LFS for monster fish, including puffers. If you are looking for Freshwater puffers of any kind, check with Ray’s first. Would you like to add an Arapaima to your tank? He has one that is almost 4 feet long. He also has a 2-footer. Do you like Flowerhorns? The selection there is the best I have seen anywhere, even in other states. The one freshwater item he does not have much of is plants. There is one tank of very common plants, which for all I know are used as food. Ray has live food such as black worms, guppies, crayfish, and ghost shrimp. The other thing I love about this store is how clean the tanks are. The water flows fast, and the tanks just shine!

Elite Reef remains high on my list of saltwater only LFS. The fish all looked happy and healthy, though the tanks seemed a bit sparse. Since I visited on a Sunday, this may explain the low stock. The display tanks are still awesome and the selection of coral excellent. Their dry ware seems tailored to reef keepers, but I suppose that is to be expected. In the days before google maps the store may have been hard to find. Even though I have been here twice I still missed the road leading to their store. Just know the road is a dead end and the store cannot be seen from Broadway. For anyone in the northern side of Denver, this is the place to go for Saltwater supplies, corals, food, fish, and inverts.

The remodeling at About Fish is coming along very well. They are about finished. What they have done is take down entire racks of tanks, repaint the metal stands, and replace any old worn-out tanks. The cichlid section is only waiting on water and should be stocked in a few weeks, maybe a month. If you have not been here and you love fish, then do yourself a favor and put them on your LFS crawl list. I cannot begin to cover all the fish they have to offer, so I will just say, go check them out. They no longer carry saltwater livestock, but they do have food and supplies.

The reason I did not take any new photos is simple, you need to see it for yourself. While there are no major changes in these stores. The livestock does change and to see it, I suggest visiting the store. I mean I could take a photo of a fish and a person comes in later that day and buys it. Thus, it is gone by the time you get there. Check with the particular store to see if they have the fish you seek, and know they get stock in every week, sometimes every two weeks. All the LFS will take requests and do their best to find that fish for you, though it may not be available. Some fish are seasonal, esp. for wild caught fish. So, there you go. Happy LFS crawl!
