Tropical Treasures

Tropical Treasures is located at 2212 E Platte Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. Their hours are 11-7 Tues thru Sat. and Sunday 12-5. They are closed on Monday. Now that you have the official hours, I visited this past Thursday, and they were closed. I left a message on the answering machine, and I never heard back. All I was able to get are photos from outside. I will share my experience on my visit from 2019 and I must say, it looks like the store is going downhill. The pandemic surely did them no favors. Notice in the photo how the signage and storefront has faded in 3 years. At first, I was perturbed with them being closed, but then I thought, no worries, it is their loss. I wish them well.

My thoughts about the store I saw in 2019 are mostly good. The place was a bit worn and the tanks while mostly clean were not in all that great shape. They specialize in cichlids and saltwater fish. I like a store that specializes because they can focus on doing a few things very well. I am sad to report that they fail in this department. I hear that they have a network of loyal customers who support the store, and this must be what keeps them in business. If they have survived the pandemic, let’s see how they handle a recession. Honestly, I don’t think we will have a very big recession. Most well-run businesses will survive, or at least that is my prediction. Look back through my blogs and find the one on the LFS list. I have updated it to include a few stores which have closed permanently. One simply moved to a new location and adopted the stores name. Another closed due to poor business practice, and the other I suspect closed due to the pandemic and high overhead.

Whether or not Tropical Treasures stays open or if it is open when you stop by is anyone’s guess. They have earned my ranking as the worst LFS in Colorado… not that my ranking means much. Just from looking in the window it did not look like things had changed all that much. If you live in Colorado Springs I suggest visiting sometime and making up your own mind. It has always been my recommendation to question reality, all ways and always.
