The Jungle Pet Shop

The Jungle Pet Shop in the northeastern part of our great state of Colorado inspired me so much. If not for the four-hour drive to get there, I would be in this store weekly. They have what I love, tropical plants and tropical animals, including frogs, snakes, and most importantly to us, tropical fish! This wonderland can be found at 29 W Victory Way, Craig, CO 81625. Parking is on the curb, and it was no problem finding a parking space nearby. Their hours are Tuesday thru Friday 11-6 and Saturday 11-5. They are closed Sunday and Monday.

The first thing which welcomes you when entering the store is a forest of tropical plants. They have a tub of goldfish in the ‘landscape’ just to the left. Moving further in they have terrariums and supplies. To the right is a small section, they are phasing out, of small mammal and bird supplies. The rest of the store is dedicated to our wet pets. The place is not that big so I had a homey feeling like I would not mind living in this space! I arrived when Clint the owner of the store was doing water changes, so my pictures had to work around this. Meaning not many wide shots, except the panoramas in the front of the store. Clint tells me they will be adding more tanks and rearranging things soon. So, the store may look a bit different when you visit. Clint and associates were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Again, I felt right at home.

The store specializes in mostly smaller aquarium fish, besides Koi. A fish which impressed me (I have not seen them anywhere else) is the pearl scale goldfish. While the tank says not for sale, the tank next to this is full of them. They have everything you need to set up an aquascape including tanks, aquasoil, plants, lights, and supplies. They have neocaridina shrimp, bettas, and a nice selection of nano fish. My pictures will highlight this in more detail. Clint said they have a breeding program for several different types of fish, including bristlenose pleco, feather fin rainbows, and angelfish. The koi where also breeding for them I believe. Their selection of guppies is also impressive, and I like that they keep the males and females separate, so these do not breed. The half black veil tail angelfish were really impressive. They have plenty of youngsters available. Besides a few tanks with blue gravel, I love the natural look to the tanks. I can tell a serious hobbyist works in this store.

My biggest downside is they are so far from any big city. Clint assured me they have plenty of business from the many communities in their area. While the store has a nice selection of fish, the store is not huge, so if you cannot find what you are looking for, ask them to order it for you. All the fish looked happy and healthy except one small fish I noticed belly up. I really don’t have any negatives to report here. I love this store! This LFS makes the top ten list for me.
