If survival of the fittest is a real thing, then I am not sure if the next store on my LFS blog will make it. The Fish Reef has only been around for a few years, and I have watched this business struggle to get a foot hold. The store is beautifully designed and maintained with freshwater on the left and saltwater on the right of the store as you walk in. Tanks make up the center of the store. They specialize in custom aquariums, installations, and maintenance of both fresh and saltwater set ups. Need to move a tank? Give them a call. Pretty much any job will be entertained. They have installed huge shark tanks all the way down to the average nano saltwater system. The store is located at 12201 East Arapahoe Road unit a-4 Centennial, CO 80112. The hours are Friday – Sunday 11:30 am – 6:30 pm (winter 6:00 pm) and Monday - Thursday CLOSED. These days it is a good idea to check the hours before making a trip to any LFS.
The store has a nice selection of fish, plants (not when I was there this last time), corals, and inverts along with the supplies needed. If you are into saltwater tanks, then this place will have what you need. Live food, frozen, supplements, etc., most everything here caters to saltwater. For instance, they had no frozen food for my freshwater fish, only bloodworms because they are used for saltwater fish and inverts. They give the freshwater section a good go, but it is not their priority, unless you are setting up a big pond or waterfall tank.
The staff is fairly knowledgeable depending on who you talk to. If you have a difficult or complex question I recommend asking for the manager. The store hours are limited these days due to staffing shortages and the priority of the maintenance side of the business. I certainly cannot fault them for this though, many of the other stores who specialize in tank installation and maintenance are doing this also. This said, I have and would buy from this store again. As usual, know the return policy before buying! I did have a clownfish die on me the day after I brought it home, I took the fish back with a sample of water from my tank and they replaced the fish. They do have good customer service. While this is not my go to LFS, I do recommend you give them a look/see at least.
