Summer Doldrums

The summer is upon us and thus the aquarium hobby often gets put on the back burner. Outdoor activities take precedence. Vacations, family outings, and so much more seem to demand our attention. The Local Fish Stores (LFS) all know this and plan for a downturn in their business. If this manages to not be so, then all the better. I have noticed quite a few folks selling tanks, downsizing, and rehoming fish on social media. It is just a seasonal thing really. Life is like that; it ebbs and flows. We have seasons for a reason and thus our actions are for a reason too. Often, we are not even aware of why we do what we do. Or we think we know, when we do not. I say, go with the flow. Row, Row, your boat….

Things usually start picking back up in the aquarium hobby world in August and grows through the winter. Your LFS is there for you either way. My blogs about various LFS will be much fewer. To answer all your questions about any LFS in Colorado please look over the blogs I have done so far. Every LFS in Colorado is listed, most of them more than once. Use the contact link on this website to ask questions directly. Or use the (F)acebook tab to ask me there.

Some of the news I can share right now is Aquatic Art has expanded their hours to include Sunday, see their website for exact hours. Keepin’ It Reef is working on expanding their selections in both saltwater and fresh. Their name indicates the ocean, but I can assure you they do have nice freshwater fish too. Check them out if you have not already. Aqua Rocks Colorado is expanding their selection of freshwater fish, so go see them and show your support. They securely hold the title of best Aquascaping LFS in Colorado! Many LFS have nice plants, but not to the extent Aqua Rocks does.

Ray’s Tank and About Fish are both stocking some really amazing fish and deserve a visit. Aqua Imports in Boulder is also bringing in some nice and rare fish. Don’t forget you can always ask your LFS to order in any fish which is available to them. Aqua Imports has the reputation of having contacts for rare fish which other LFS don’t.

To finish out this blog, I will make a plug for Colorado Aquarium Society and the other specialty clubs here. Go to ColoradoAquarium.org and see the list of all the clubs in the state, plus consider joining CAS as a member. They have their summer picnic coming up soon, so keep an eye out for the details on the website. It will be a member's only event. CAS will also have a new location to meet, so be aware of that too. I wish I knew more to share, but there you go. Have a great Summer!
