Random LFS Updates

This has been a good weekend for visiting LFS. I did not take any photos because there are plenty on my previous blogs and frankly, I just wanted to focus on the stores and what they had to offer. My first visit was to Aquatic Dog, and I am pleased to say the new owners are slowly Transforming the store. Most of the changes are to the merchandise and not the livestock. They have cleaned up the shelves in front and are condensing things down and making room for new product. I will continue to visit weekly and when things get closer to how they will be, I will get some new pics. For now, rest assured the store still has a great selection of nano fish.

My second stop was About Fish, and I have to say they are back in the Cichlid game big time. This small store has so many fish it almost boggles the mind. They certainly make use of space! It doesn’t matter if you are looking for South Americans or Africans the selection of Cichlids is second to none. Now, I will say the Tanganyikan fish were young and not very well colored up. It could be hard to imagine what the fish will look like once it gets in a safe space and grows out some, without being very knowledgeable about the particular species. On the other side from these fish is their plant section and it was well stocked and looking good. They also had some killer deals on aquarium setups, brand new tanks well below MRSP.

Elite Reef was my next stop as I needed some salt and I found just what I was looking for. My regular salt that I buy online was double the price though, so I did not go that route. It is sad to say, but I just cannot justify buying salt from a LFS anymore, unless I’m in a pinch. This said, I did see some good prices on corals and the fish were right in there with the expected pricing. They continue to have a nice selection of corals and fish with some really well-done display tanks. I will happily shop here in the future.

The last LFS I visited this weekend was Ray’s Tank. I just happened to be in the area, and it is always fun to visit this store. They have such fun and unusual fish here. For instance, they had Atlantic Tarpon! Ray’s usually has several different types of knife fish, eels, and bichir. They have several nice used tanks for sale out front. The store was quite busy too, but this is no surprise since they are the go-to store in Colorado for monster fish.

All in all, a good weekend. I wish you well on your next LFS crawl.
