Plant and Polyp

Plant and Polyp has been my favorite store in Colorado Springs since I discovered it several years ago. The store has gone through several owners in the past 5 years, and it looks like Colin is here to stay a while. They have always had nice plants with an aquascaping flair, and it is no different now. The freshwater fish are both routine and unusual depending on what you are looking for. Same goes for the saltwater section. If you seek a particular fish, tank, or equipment they will help you find it or make a special order. The store is located at 2361 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909 and the hours are 12-6 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. They are closed on Tuesday and the Saturday hours are 10-8.

Upon entering the store, it looks a bit sparse with the freshwater on the left and the saltwater on the right. The center of the store is mostly open with a couch and table toward the rear. They often host the Pikes Peak Aquarists Society, and members get a discount. This explains the open space in the middle of the store as well as this location is fairly new, and they are working on growing into it. I love that each of the tanks has nice looking aquascaping. If you follow them on social media, they list specials weekly when they get new stock in. My favorite thing though is the staff, esp. Colin is so friendly and helpful. It is a joy to do business here!

The new store looks much better than the old one, even though it does appear too big. As the store grows, they have the space to become the premier LFS in the Springs. While they do have aquarium supplies, he tells me they have been having difficulty getting stock in, so the shelves are lightly stocked. The business environment has been tough on all the LFS these past few years, so it is best we cut them some slack and lend our support.

If you need to stock a new tank or expand the ones you have, this is the place to come. They are very knowledgeable and helpful with most any aquarium related issue you may be dealing with, so ask those questions. Plant and Polyp earns a high listing on my fish crawls down south and I recommend you place them on your list also.
