Pet Paradise

Pet Paradise serves the southern Colorado wet pet community well. They are located at 1115 Pueblo Blvd Way, Pueblo, CO 81005 and their hours are 9-7 Monday thru Saturday, 11-5 on Sunday. The store has a charming atrium at the entrance with two koi ponds, jungle plants, art, birds, bunnies, and the pet salon. A big tank of red bellied piranha sits to the far right. While the store strives to serve the entire pet community, to me it seems they do best with birds and fish. This store reminds me of Pet World in Lakewood, but on steroids! They have tons of tanks and aquarium supplies plus all the wet pets one would desire. The range of fish goes from monster fish, to nano fish, to goldfish, to axolotls, to saltwater. They really do have a wonderful selection in both the freshwater and saltwater departments which are in separate rooms, which I find useful and appropriate. When I was there, they got a big shipment of saltwater livestock and from what I saw the tanks already all had residence. Our cup truly runneth over!

The fish section is to the left in back of the store. It is raised, which I found curious, so be sure to step up. They have a display ‘trough’ in front which had a token turtle. It is quite the eyesore. The decorations are cute but appear old and worn. The store definitely shows its age, in fact this weekend they are celebrating 48yrs which is most commendable. Congrats to Ron & Connie Kendall and associates for many years of service. Though the store does show its age in places, all the tanks and cages are clean and the livestock healthy. I saw no signs of dis-ease or dis-stress in any of the animals, although I will say the Monster fish could use a bit more room. I am not a bird keeper, but I am impressed with the selection of birds they had. I did not see much in the way of reptiles or amphibians, just a few turtles. I could have missed them though because the store is quite big, and I did not walk around it all.

Beyond the ugly trough by the fish area, I would say the store has a charm to it that makes the pet community in Pueblo and So. Colorado most fortunate. The selection of both aquatic animals and products makes this store more than adequate for the average aquarist. The staff is both knowledgeable and helpful, so if you are in the area, maybe you need a new aquarium set-up.
