Pet Palace has been independently owned and operated since 1993, making it almost 3 decades old. This also makes it a fixture in the Aurora Pet Industry. Their fish department really surprised me with the selection of fish they have to offer and their low prices. The store is found at 4122 S Parker Rd, Aurora, CO 80014. The hours are Monday – Friday: 10AM – 7PM, Saturday: 10AM – 6PM, and Sunday: 11AM – 6PM.
Check out their website for all the other services they offer, like Veterinary and Adoption. Please note the new location, a few units down from where they were in the same shopping center. The new store is big and well laid out, though the fish department is tucked in to the left side of the store. They still have all the popular aquarium fish, supplies, hardscape, and even some pond supplies they had before. They even have new aquariums and nano tanks. When I walked in, I was greeted warmly and asked my interests and needs. Once I told them I was just looking (and taking pics for this blog) they left me to do my thing, which is greatly appreciated. This is such a friendly store, I really got the feeling I was part of their community. And they do have their own community with plenty of faithful fans. Several dogs roamed the store and I hear cats are sometimes found visiting too.
A few things which indicate the age of this store are the use of red backgrounds and ugly gravel like was popular back in the 20th century, although the fish appeared healthy and active. The Betta wall looked sad and is an exception to this, though most LFS are keeping their Bettas in tanks and not cups now days. One sign this is only a borderline LFS and more like a box store. The selection of aquatic plants was mostly non-existent. They are featuring Glo-fish now, so if this interests you, they have several kinds. They had large common plecos, cichlids, community fish, and many others, so the selection is good. It may be worth the visit, especially since the prices are very reasonable. All in all, Pet Palace has a very good fish department, and I will recommend them to anyone with average pet needs.
