Neptune's Tropical Fish

When I have difficulty finding the fish I am looking for I turn to a store which is a bit of a further drive, but worth it 95% of the time. I have to admit I can spend an hour easily just looking around this LFS, so I highly recommend visiting. Neptune’s Tropical Fish is located at 1970 E. County Line Rd., Unit A, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126. Their hours are Mon-Sat 10-5, Sun 12-5.

Neptune’s is a complete all around local fish store. The only fish they do not carry are Goldfish, Koi or monster fish. They have an extensive selection of hardscape, supplies, higher end tanks, and chemicals for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. If it is quality you seek, look no further than Neptune’s. In my pics of the store you may notice the tags which say “not for sale” on several of the tanks and all this means is the fish are in quarantine and not for sale right now. The store is nicely laid out with Freshwater to the left and Saltwater to the right. They take customer service very seriously and will almost always have someone to answer your questions and get you what you need with very little wait. As can be seen in the pics below, they have some awesome display tanks which is just one of the things I love about this store. The selection of both fish and supplies is second to none, at least here in CO. On my last visit I was impressed with the selection of different rainbow fish, as my interests lie in nanofish, but they also have cichlids, discus, and oddballs like ropefish.

In a failed attempt to start a saltwater lagoon tank (totally my fault) I got much of my supplies and fish here at Neptune’s. Their advice was most helpful and the fish did well for a while. I just found the nuance of keeping them more than I could afford. Not many LFS are able to do both freshwater and saltwater well, yet Neptune’s pulls it off wonderfully.

With all the positives covered, the negatives I share here are relative and personal to me. It is a bit of drive for me, I am not a big fan of loud birds and they have a beautiful one right behind the checkout, and their prices are slightly higher than other LFS’s I shop, esp. in the chemical supplies area. Fish tanks and full setups are always higher at the LFS than the box store because you are paying for service and expertise, so I will let you decide if that is worth it. Many of us hobbyists like to think we know better and end up spending more because of failures with our DIY projects.

So, to wrap this blog up, I rank Neptune’s in my top 5 fish stores in CO. Any LFS with books on fish and the aquarium hobby has my vote! Sharon is the store owner and manager with 36 years experience, so if you need anything aquarium related she will most likely have the answer.
