MC Aquatics at, 11800 Oswego St Unit D60, Englewood, CO 80112, has their freshwater department dialed in nicely. The display tanks look better than ever, and the aquatic plant display has a wonderful selection. The fish appear happy and well cared for. The shrimp section looked a bit sparse, but most of the tanks looked nice. Of course, I have photograph evidence of this below.
What I don’t have are photos of the saltwater department, for good reason! Not only are the tanks sparse, they have several which appear to be struggling. The reason for this escapes me. I suspect it has something to do with their expansion efforts straining their finances. They now have five locations spaced all over the USA. They are bordering on Big Box status. Since their only focus is on Aquaria, they will remain on my list of LFS. I will also continue to give them my business, because they often have what I am looking for.
The other thing I did not photograph is the large ~1000 gallon aquarium in the back of the product department. It is hard to miss! It sits right next to the fish food along the back wall. It is also still sitting empty. I hear they almost sold it. I’ve asked for a scoop on the reason for its idleness and have not heard back yet.
So, all in all the store really shines in the freshwater area and in the saltwater area they leave much to be desired. If you’ve not been yet to see this most impressive LFS, maybe it is time. They rank as the 2nd best freshwater aquascaped store in Colorado with 3 solid contenders and an impressive fiddler crab biotope. They also have nano tanks fully setup and available too. The cichlid tanks are looking stellar which always puts a smile on my face when I visit these beautiful fish. A well deserving addition to any LFS fish crawl list!
