On my last visit to MC Aquatics a few days ago I was surprised to see sales galore. They even have a clearance item table. The discounts were good, but not great. After being open now for just over 9 months I think they have figured out the market here in Colorado. They have had enough time now to work out the kinks and the store is hitting a sweet spot.
The livestock appears healthy with a good selection of fish, though the freshwater side leans toward the cichlids. When I was there the marine side was quite sparse, so either they had not ordered for a while, or they have had some really good business. Personally, I would be cautious buying fish here. There dry goods are great, and they cover all the bases. The only time I attempted to buy fish here they were in quarantine, so I went elsewhere. It’s not like they are the only game in town. Like I said before, if they had a fish (es) I wanted, I would get them after checking them over good.
The plant table looked like the plants had been there a while. It looks good, but I’m not sure how many they are moving. Same goes for the Betta fish, the selection was quite sparse for such a large wall of tanks. Their Shrimp Zone is looking good with the plants grown out. The selection seemed good here. Did I mention they have fully set up nano tanks for sale? These are cute little setups 2-12g in size. Perfect as a gift or for someone just getting started.
The other sad fact is their huge 400+ gallon tank is for sale, because it is too expensive to set up. They are asking 20K for it with all you need to set it up included. I was excited to see it all decked out with plants and fish by now. The economy has been hard on us all, especially those in business. So, if you need any aquarium supplies, plants, food, or fish, support your local fish store! I would say MC Aquatics is worth a drive across town for that hard-to-find item, though I would call first to make sure they have it. I will continue giving them my business, with caution.
