It’s been a while since I last blogged, so today I went on a LFS crawl to 4 different stores in Lakewood and Denver. When was the last time you LFS crawled? The holidays are coming, and this is the traditional time to go on an outing. We are blessed here in Colorado with 32 awesome fish stores. In a previous blog I rate the best LFS’s and for which aspect of the aquarium hobby.
This first store to be featured from this adventure is Golden Fish in Lakewood off Colfax Blvd. I have reviewed this store several times before, yet updated material is good for business. This fish store seems to do well no matter the marketplace. The owner has been in the game for years and it shows! The tanks and especially the fish are well cared for. The presentation works, probably because it is classic. So, what sets this LFS above the rest? Besides the healthy fish, I would say it is the selection and specialization. I am a big fan of choosing something you love and become the best at it. Golden Fish specializes in Cichlids and Goldfish.
The photos below will give you a glimpse into the offerings there. One whole wall of tanks is dedicated to cichlids, and this is not all. They have Goldfish in the backroom and on the wall opposite of the cichlids. There are several other fish which stand out to me, and they are in the photos, esp. the Long Fin Golden Rams. The Betta’s look really nice too. I’m not sure why I was surprised to see them. There always seems to be a fish to jump out to your eye no matter how many times you’ve been in the store.
