At 8 months old, Keepin it Reef is the lifelong dream of Carl to have his own LFS and it has materialized with the help of his partner, Dave. Their store is located at 5500 S. Simms St. Suite O, Littleton, CO 80127. They are only open Saturday and Sunday, 10-8pm, for now as the owners still have full-time jobs. The store has a bright welcoming feeling as you enter with corals to the left, tanks in the center and fish along the right wall. There are freshwater fish sprinkled in the center, by the door, and in the room to the right which also has saltwater fish. Keepin It Reef has a wonderful display tank right behind the front desk.
A nice feature of the store is the tank racks have beetle kill wood planks between the rows to hide the lights making for a nice mountain feel. The store does custom made stands of top quality and will order any items they don’t have in the store like big tanks, sumps, or lighting. The owner likes to build things, so if you need a tank or custom installation with maintenance be sure to ask. If you are into corals, they do a weekly online auction on Saturday nights. Go to their Facebook page to sign up. They offer seawater like most of the stores which handle saltwater, though don’t take it for granted no matter what store you visit, ask before going.
Since this is a new store, it will take a bit longer for them to find their sweet spot for all the items in the store. Several tanks were empty, one was waiting to be picked up, and the livestock seemed sparse. The owner has done most of the work himself and only works nights and weekends, so things are coming along slowly. As with any new store they will evolve over time as demand dictates. I see this store being top notch in the not so distant future. If you live on the west side of the Denver Metro I suggest stopping by and saying hello.
