Denver Fish Crawl

Recently I went on a LFS fish crawl around Denver and the area to the south and west for a total of five stores visited. Neptune’s Tropical Fish was the first stop and I have to say the store is looking better than ever. All the tanks were clean and well stocked. The shelves all had plenty of ‘stuff’ for the discerning aquarist. This is one of the best LFS’s in the state overall.

The next stop was Keepin’ It Reef on the southwest side of the metro. There was a huge tank greeting me just inside the front door waiting to get delivered and setup. They do lots of maintenance and installations. The store had a few ugly spots with tanks in need of cleaning, though the livestock all looked happy enough. Generally speaking, this LFS does a great job of caring for their operation and I do recommend you add them to your fish crawl list. They offer both Saltwater and Fresh, so no excuses for not stopping in. While their selection is not extensive, they do have the fish most folks are looking for.

From there we ventured on to Pet World which I am happy to report is status quo. They have a wide selection of fish both fresh and saltwater, though the number of freshwater is at least double the saltwater. This is a good all-around pet store and with a sole proprietor who’s been in the business a long time you can rest assured they have what you need and can answer your questions.

Golden Fish is just up around the corner off Colfax, and they are looking good too. If you are looking for cichlids this LFS will fix you up. They also have a nice supply of Goldfish depending on the timing of your visit as they sell out pretty fast. I have gotten fish here before and can easily recommend them.

The last LFS visit of the day was Fish Den since they are so close to I-70. Once again, an excellent LFS with the biggest tank selection in the state, plus supplies galore. Their selection of nanofish is good too. They have cichlids, but the selection varies and is tucked away in the back. The saltwater area can vary here too, but generally they have lots of nice fish and inverts. While this LFS is a bit dated, they have what you need, and it’s well cared for.

Denver is blessed with great LFS’s! For a full list of stores check out the post on the home page of this website. If you are interested in seeing photos of these LFS then use the links provided above. I did not take pics this trip since I have done so many times before. The one store I did not make it to is MC Aquatics – Denver. They recently changed hands and are in the process of revamping their store, so stay tuned for an update soon.
