Boulder LFS Update

Exotic Aquatics has slipped a bit since Myk, the new owner, has taken over. A few of the old ugly tanks are gone and a few small tank racks have been redone. Otherwise, the frag rack was almost empty, not worth a picture, and the other tanks worth recording were few and far between. I understand that a LFS takes a big chunk of change to get up and running. Perhaps my timing was just off, I was told they had a big shipment of fish coming, and the only way to know about this is to drop by in a week or two. However, I don’t expect to get back up to Boulder till after the new year. Check out these pics of the tanks worth viewing. If you live in the area, please support your local LFS. If you need something specific, ask them to order it for you. The one thing I will say about this store, the fish they have appear healthy and well cared for.

Aqua Imports (A.I.) impressed me with their stock of fish, plants, and coral. The display tanks were clean and seemed to be doing well. The selection of saltwater coral and fish was good, though not amazing. They still had many empty tanks. A.I. does a large volume of sales, so this could explain the empty tanks. On a Sunday afternoon, the store was quite busy. The freshwater tanks were all full and looking good. They just got a plant shipment in, and this area looked great! The thing this LFS is known for is its unique and harder to find fish. See the pictures below for a few of the outstanding fish I noticed. The door to the warehouse section where they keep the fish being sold online was open. Since my last visit this area has expanded and all the tanks were full with beautiful fish. Pre-pandemic Aqua Imports was ‘the’ store in northern CO, and I am happy to say they are getting back to that point now.
