For Saltwater enthusiasts, Biggs Lagoon has been on the scene in Northern Colorado since 2018. They are a family owned and operated LFS with dedication to provide their customers with support in creating healthy aquatic environments for coral, inverts, and fish. The store is located at 6050 Firestone Blvd, Unit 205, Longmont, CO 80504. The hours are 11:30 – 7 Wed. and Thurs., 11:30 – 8 Fri. & Sat., 11:30 – 5 on Sunday. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
The bulk of their business like most Saltwater only stores centers around installation and maintenance, though they also focus on having the best corals and fish available. The store certainly reflects these goals. When they first opened, they had freshwater fish and plants, but they realized over time they could not do justice to both fresh and salt, so they went with what they know and love best.
The store has 6 racks of corals, several for inverts, and a room dedicated to fish. The 3 main display tanks really catch the eye, esp. the one in the back by the fish room. My pictures don’t do them justice because the blue lights are very strong. I assure you I compensated as much as I could for this lighting. To really get a feel for their stock, one needs to visit the store in person. Since I am not a saltwater aquarist, I am not sure on their pricing, though it did seem a bit higher than I have seen around Denver. However, it is competitive with their competition in Greeley and Ft. Collins. Those stores will be featured in the next few weeks.
They certainly have the customer service with the whole family there when I visited. Looking for things I did not care for, I can only say the blue lighting was a bit strong. The tanks are well stocked, and the aquaria all look healthy. The one thing I don’t seem to find much in the saltwater stores in CO is Macroalgae. I am not sure the reason for this because we have a premier grower right here in Centennial, Algae Barn.
Otherwise, I found the store to be slightly above average. If you live north of Denver, then Biggs Lagoon deserves a stop on the LFS crawl list for saltwater enthusiasts.
