One of the things which makes Denver Metro unique is the number of LFS’s and many of them serve the saltwater hobby. If you are at all interested in or actively keeping saltwater tanks, then you most likely know about Aquamart. They specialize in all aspects of saltwater, fish, coral, inverts, and supplies. A few years ago, they expanded into freshwater, with fish, plants, shrimp, and supplies. They have some nice nano tanks as well as the larger tanks, though I did not see much in between. They also had a nice selection of upper end lighting. It is a big store with four awesome display tanks in the entry. The freshwater selection has expanded since I was last here. I like how the store is arranged by fresh or saltwater. The saltwater fish section and coral take up most of the store. They carry a wide selection of foods too, including some live foods. If you are in the market for saltwater fish or coral, it would serve you to visit this store. I love to see all the kewl fish they have to offer.
The store can be found just off S. Wadsworth, at 3225 S Wadsworth Blvd Unit E, Lakewood, CO 80227. There hours are 12-7 Mon., Wed. - Fri., Sat. 11-7, Sun. 12-5, Closed on Tuesday. There are several good restaurants in the area, and I like to make an outing of it to include lunch and King of Aquariums across Wads.
The store seems to change management rather frequently from what I gather. Even though I visit the store at least twice a year, I did not know anybody working there when I visited. I can say the store is clean and the tanks well maintained. Read over their website for all the services they offer, and turn down your volume, LOL. It seems to be a full-service aquarium store. I am not sure exactly what their quarantine practices are, but they do have a row of tanks in the back corner for this purpose. Most LFS will treat new fish and tanks as needed and just put a not for sale sign on the tank. I did not see any signs of disease in any of the fish tanks.
Depending on your interests Aquamart definitely belongs on the fish crawl list, esp. if you are into saltwater tanks. The other area I am impressed with is their selection of freshwater shrimp. The only other LFS that really competes with them in this area is the Fish Crew in Ft. Collins. I still have many LFS to go and I have a chart of all the LFS in CO which I will post soon.
