My recent trip to Boulder, CO has reminded me why so many people like Aqua Imports. They have a great selection of freshwater fish which may be hard to find elsewhere. The husbandry has also improved since my last visit. The fish all look happy, healthy and active. I did see one dead saltwater fish, but that seems to be par of the course. I would not buy saltwater fish from this store, going on how often I have seen floaters in this section of the store.
A pleasant surprise is the freshwater plants, they have expanded this section and all the plants look wonderful. Aqua Imports continues to be an above par LFS for freshwater, but not so impressive when it comes to Saltwater. The big 500g tank has been cleared of fish and was full of marmokreb (self-cloning) crayfish. An impressive sight, though I don’t know what to think about all the wasted space. I will assume this is to keep the cycle going till they get the fish they want to put in there. If you live anywhere near Boulder, this is the LFS, in more ways than one.
On the way home we stopped by Liquid Kingdom and I am so glad we did. I almost didn’t get out without buying something, LOL. I may have to start a tank just so I can fill it with some of the awesome animals from this store. They are different than all the other Saltwater specialty stores in that they are not a coral focused commercial machine. They are a family run store with a love of the ocean, and it shows in their tanks. So many beautiful fish with all the marine animals that go with fill this store. The tanks are well established and while not perfect by most standards, each display is a slice of nature. If you have not been to this LFS and keep Saltwater tanks or want to, do yourself a favor and visit asap.
